One of the things Krissy is most passionate about is her work with children, teens, and families--her mission is to help transform chaos to peace and give students strategies to empower them not just in their academics, but in their social & emotional lives as well. Throughout her nearly fifteen-year career in education, Krissy has worked in both the public and Montessori environments as both a teacher and counselor (see resume here), grades K-8. With a Master's degree in Educational Psychology and extensive training in reading instruction and Conscious Discipline, Krissy brings a holistic, integrated approach to working with students and families.
Beyond just "tutoring", Krissy understands from her training and years of working with students that there are often bigger issues underneath what appears to be simply academic struggles, so she takes a more "coach-like" approach to working with her clients. While addressing academic concerns and helping with school work, her one-on-one work with students dives deeper into underlying skills that are necessary for students to be successful such as organizational skills, strategies to improve attention and focus, and practices that allow students to manage anxiety so that their "thinking brain" is able to fully engage in learning. Often, this work will involve consultations with the family and coaching them through ways to help their children after her work with them ends, as it's important for consistency that the strategies and skills taught to the child/teen are in place at home as well. While most sessions will be only involve the child & coach, families who work with Krissy should be prepared to work together as a child/parent/coach team and understand that the goal will not just be an increase in grades and performance, but a child who thrives in all ways--academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally.
Sessions are typically done in the home or a meet-up location, but are currently being done virtually, which allows Krissy to be able to work with students from anywhere in the country. For new families there will be a free phone/Zoom initial consultation (40 minutes max) to discuss areas of concern, goals, and a schedule that is comfortable in terms of cost and need. For more information, please fill out the contact form below and include a time window/day of the week you're available for a consultation in the comment section (along with your preference of a phone or virtual consult).
We look forward to connecting with you and your child!
